Enhanced Wildfire Danger Through Saturday
October 05, 2011
A surface high pressure system is forecast to shift east over the next few days at the same time a surface low will develop across the OK/TX panhandles. This will result in an increasing pressure gradient across the region, but especially so across East and NE Texas. The atmosphere is going to remain dry and there is little or no soil moisture left to offset the extreme dryness in the atmosphere. Therefore, we can expect afternoon RH values to dip below Red Flag criteria across the NW quarter of our area. Friday appears to be the day which would have the strongest winds combined with the 20-25% RH values, although, Thu and Saturday will also be windy with low RH’s.
Locations:
· Areas west and north of a Jacksonville->Carthage->Texarkana->Nashville, AR Line will have the strongest winds and lowest RH values (20-25% Afternoon RH values) all 3 days with an emphasis on Friday where winds will range from 15-20 mph with gusts around 25 mph possible.
· On Saturday, Areas west and north of a Jacksonville->Henderson->Minden->Magnolia line are forecast to experience stronger winds 15-20 mph gusts to 25 with minimum RH values in the 23-28%. These areas will have winds generally 10-15 Thu and Friday with Min RH values 25-30%.
Winds will generally be out of the Southeast during the next few days…and may actually be a bit higher or gustier in the late morning as winds from the 1000-2000 foot level mix down to the surface.
